Perfect Strangers is the eleventh studio album by Deep Purple, released in October 1984. It represents the first album recorded by the reformed, the most successful and popular, 'Mark II' line-up.
It was the first Deep Purple studio album in nine years, and the first with the Mk II lineup for eleven years, the last being Who Do We Think We Are in 1973. Ritchie Blackmore and Roger Glover arrived from Rainbow, Ian Gillan from Black Sabbath, Jon Lord from Whitesnake, and Ian Paice from Gary Moore's backing band.

"White Room" is a psychedelic rock song by British "supergroup" Cream, written by bassist Jack Bruce and poet Pete Brown. It originally appeared on the US release of their double album, Wheels of Fire, by Atco Records in July 1968 and was released as a single in September 1968, on the same label. The single reached the top 30 in 7 countries, including Australia, where it topped the Go-Set National Top 40 singles chart.The song was edited for the single release on AM Radio stations, although album-oriented FM Radio stations would play the full album version.

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a nine-part Pink Floyd composition written by Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and David Gilmour. The song is a tribute to former band member Syd Barrett, although it was not originally explicitly written with him in mind. It was first performed on their 1974 French tour. It was recorded for the 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. The song was intended to be a side-long composition like "Atom Heart Mother" and "Echoes", but was ultimately split into two parts and used to bookend the album.

"Fool for Your Loving" is a song recorded by British hard rock band Whitesnake. The song is from the band's 1980 album Ready an' Willing, but it was later re-recorded in 1989 for the album Slip of the Tongue.
The song was the first big hit of Whitesnake's, reaching #13 on the British charts and #53 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
This remains one of Whitesnake's most popular and well-known songs. David Coverdale has stated that he prefers the original to the 1989-version.

"Out in the Fields" is a single by former Thin Lizzy band members Gary Moore and Phil Lynott, released in 1985. The song is about the religious turmoil in their native Ireland. The song is reminiscent of the sound of their band and draws many influences from both artists' wide musical palettes. It performed well critically as well as commercially, reaching #3 in the Irish Singles Chart[2] and #5 on the UK Singles Chart, the highest positions either of the two would ever reach in their careers. "Out in the Fields" was also to be the last known recording made by Phil Lynott before his death on 4 January 1986.

"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" is the title of a power ballad song by American glam metal band Poison. It was released in October 1988 as the third single from Poison's second album Open Up And Say... Ahh!. It is the band's only number-one hit in the U.S., reaching the top spot on Christmas Eve in 1988 for three weeks (carrying over into 1989). It was a number 13 hit in the UK. "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" was named number 34 on VH1's "100 Greatest Songs of the 80s", #100 on their "100 Greatest Love Songs" and #7 on MTV and VH1 "Top 25 Power Ballads."

"Doctor Doctor" is a single released by the British hard rock band UFO. It's the band's first hit single in the UK. The song was written by Michael Schenker and Phil Mogg and is included in UFO's third album Phenomenon of 1974. It was released as a single in Europe, but not in the United Kingdom. The song eventually charted in 1979, when a live version taken from the live album Strangers in the Night was released as a single. It remains a staple in every concert of UFO and of Michael Schenker and has been covered on stage and in the recording studios by heavy metal bands, most notably by Iron Maiden, who also used the song as last one being played over PA just before the show starts, on their recent tours.

"Panama" is a song from Van Halen's album 1984. It was the third single released from that record and is one of their most recognized songs. The song was written about a car. According to David Lee Roth this was because critics accused him of writing about nothing more than partying, sex, and cars, but Roth realized that he had yet to write a song about cars. In an interview with Howard Stern, Roth explained the meaning behind the trademark song. Although the song features some suggestive lyrics, it is about a car that Roth saw race in Las Vegas; its name was "Panama Express", hence the title of the song.

Electric is the pivotal third album by The Cult. Released in 1987, the album marked a deliberate stylistic change in the band from a Gothic rock to a hard rock band. Rick Rubin, the producer on Electric, had been specifically hired to remake the band's sound. The album was featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
The song "Lil Devil" was featured in the film Less Than Zero. Rick Rubin also produced the film's soundtrack.

"Kids Wanna Rock" is a song recorded by Canadian recording artist Bryan Adams, from his fourth studio album, Reckless (1984). The song was written by Adams and Jim Vallance, a long-time writing partner of Adams. The song was B-side  of "Summer of '69" along with the track "The Best Was Yet to Come". "Summer of '69" received favourable reviews from music critics. The single had a strong effect on music charts internationally, with its highest peak being number four in the Netherlands, and its least successful charting country being Germany.

"Whole Lotta Rosie" is a song by Australian hard rock band AC/DC. It is the eighth and final track on the band's fourth Australian album, Let There Be Rock, released in Australia in March 1977, and was written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young, and Bon Scott. It is also the eighth and final track on the international version of the album, released in June the same year.
It was also released as a single in 1978, with a live version of the Let There Be Rock album track "Dog Eat Dog" as the B-side, which had been recorded in concert in Glasgow on 30 April 1978.

"Carry On Wayward Son" is a progressive rock single recorded by Kansas and written by Kerry Livgren for their 1976 album Leftoverture. In 1977, the song peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard pop singles chart, becoming their first Top 40 hit. The 7" single has been certified Gold by the RIAA. This version was a much shorter version of the song, edited down to 3:26, a version that was also the band's only single to chart in the UK, reaching number 51 there. This song is 96th on VH1's 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.

In the 1990s, "Word Up!" was covered by Scottish rock band Gun, whose version carried a harder, more rock-oriented sound, including a guitar solo. Taken from their album Swagger, it was released on July 1, 1994 and reached #8 in the UK singles chart.
Gun's version of the song was featured on the soundtrack to 1996 film Barb Wire, and was also used in the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation season one episode "Who Are You?".

"The Spirit of Radio" is a song released in 1980 by Canadian rock band Rush from their album Permanent Waves. The song's name was inspired by Toronto radio station CFNY's slogan. The song was significant in the growing popularity of the band. It is also the first song of the 1980s, since Permanent Waves was released on January 1, 1980, and being the opening track on the album. The band had grazed the UK Top 40 two years earlier with "Closer to the Heart", but when issued as a single in March 1980, "The Spirit of Radio" soon reached number 13 on the UK singles chart. It remains their biggest UK hit to date.

"Chinatown" is the tittle track from the tenth studio album by Irish band Thin Lizzy, released in 1980 . It introduced guitarist Snowy White who would also perform on the next album as well as tour with Thin Lizzy between 1980 and 1982; he replaced Gary Moore as permanent guitarist. White had previously worked with Cliff Richard, Peter Green and Pink Floyd. Chinatown also featured seventeen-year old Darren Wharton on keyboards, and he joined Thin Lizzy as a permanent member later that year.

"Never Again" is the title of a song recorded by Canadian rock band Nickelback. It was released in July 2002 as the first track of their third album Silver Side Up. It was released in the Nickelback Pack 01 for Rock Band on June 29, 2010, along with several other songs spanning their career.

"Rock You Like a Hurricane" a song by the German heavy metal band Scorpions. The song was released as the second track of their 1984 album Love at First Sting.
"Rock You Like a Hurricane" reached number 25 in the USA Billboard Hot 100, greatly contributing to the album's success, and MTV put the video in heavy rotation.
In 2006, VH1 named "Rock You Like a Hurricane" number 31 on their 40 Greatest Metal Songs and in 2009 it was named the 18th greatest hard rock song of all time also by VH1. On November 15, 2010, it was named the number 4 best riff of the 80's.

"Photograph" is a 1983 single by British hard rock band Def Leppard from their album Pyromania. It was written as a tribute to the late actress Marilyn Monroe, as singer Joe Elliott often stated before playing the song live onstage. When released as a single it reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Tracks chart and No. 12 on the Pop Singles chart. In 2009 it was named the 13th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1. It was also listed as the No. 17 greatest song by VH1.
In 2008 they performed the song with country pop singer Taylor Swift on CMT Crossroads.
Joe Elliott commented on the Vault album that this song was a big hit in the US and that he felt disappointed that it didn't become a hit in the UK.

Here Comes Trouble is the tenth studio album by hard rock band Bad Company and the last with Brian Howe as lead vocalist, released in 1992. The title track from this album received some major air play on Classic rock radio, although "How About That" was the biggest single from the album, spending six weeks at the top of the Album Rock Tracks chart.
